"If you're going to hunt bear - hunt grizzly"! If you are going to drive a truck then drive a truck! The Dodge 1500 Quad Cab SLT 4X4 with the Hemi is the grizzly bear of trucks on the block. Scott Voorhees, Hot Talk 1510 popular afternoon drive time host, and I recently took one to Swope Memorial Park for a round of golf. Could Jeff Lund the Sales Manager of Weinburg Dodge read my mind as he chose the ultimate Hemi truck for me to drive? I can't think of a more perfect example than the Dodge Ram. This black beast was enhanced by a set of huge chrome wheels reminiscent of the Crager wheels of the 70's. The SLT has all of the convenience of any luxury car but with the interior space only the Dodge Ram gives. The interior is definitely masculine, with hard edges rather than the soft pillowy curves like other modern trucks. For the pack rat there is storage aplenty. The most recognizable feature of the Dodge Ram interior is the massive center console that is big enough to hold a laptop computer. Cup holders are adjustable and the roof is high enough for someone 6'6" or a normal person wearing a tall cowboy hat. Not only is the interior big, but also this truck gives you a view of the road like a Kenworth. I felt like I was actually looking down on Suburbans. The only option I would recommend for this truck might be one of those chrome step bars, or may be a stepladder to climb into the cab. While my ultimate destination was to play golf at Swope Memorial with Scott Voorhees, I actually drove the truck all weekend. Without a doubt this is the most awesome pickup in production today by any manufacturer. I know those are big words but just take one for a drive and listen to the testosterone fueled hemi engine. The 5.7 Liter V8 Hemi is the most exciting gasoline engine found in any truck today. The torque propels this huge truck off the line just like the commercials profess. This is an engine that absolutely gives power on demand. But it's not just the low-end torque that makes this an exciting engine. At highway speeds you will never want for available horsepower. You feel a rush as the sound of the low throaty growl erases from your mind the fact that the 13/17 advertised fuel economy is probably more of a fantasy rather than reality. But then you wouldn't buy a Hemi for the fuel economy would you? I know a 4X4 Quad Cab, Hemi powered Ram pickup is overkill for two guys to take golf clubs to Swope Memorial in but we had to look good, and what better way to arrive than in this muscular monster of manly motoring. It must have been the truck's fault for my next mistake. As Scott and I went to check in I knew I needed and had a cart waiting for me. But when the young athletic Voorhees said he was going to walk, the truck induced shot of braggadocio overcame my good sense. For if he could walk, then I could walk. After sixteen of the most beautiful but grueling holes of golf anywhere in Kansas City, I was a painful wreck dreading the two holes left. Scott chirping merrily along had little compassion as he simply couldn't relate to my discomfort. Fortunately as Scott drove me away in the comfort of the Dodge Ram, I vowed never again to walk the Swope Memorial Golf Course. I also decided that even when you are a quivering mass of wrung-out flesh, the Dodge 1500 Quad Cab 4X4 Hemi still makes you look strong. Vehicle Tested
